Donato D’Antonio

Donato D’Antonio was born in Zűrich. He graduated in classical guitar with full marks at the Conservatorio “Bruno Maderna” in Cesena. He attended many specialisation courses held by – among others – Pepe Romero at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Pier Narciso Masi at the Accademia Pianistica in Imola, Alirio Diaz, Manuel Barrueco, Oscar Ghiglia and Ruggero Chiesa. He is now finishing the two-year second level specialization course of virtuosity at the Conservatory “Giovanni Battista Martini in Bologna with Prof. Walter Zanetti.

He won national guitar competitions (Taraffo, Giovani musicisti and Maddalena) and he played as a soloist in many concerts as well as together with chamber music groups in Italy and abroad (Spain, Austria, France, Slovenia, Cuba, Chile, Argentina, Japan, USA, Finland), meeting with widespread success. His performances were also broadcasted live (RAI Radio Tre Suite, Radio National Argentina, Radio KoperCapodistria and Radio Slovenia uno) and he recorded pieces and first performances of contemporary music for the Italian State Radio RAI Radio Tre and for music festivals and reviews working together with the composers Samorì, Cavallone, Varotti, Telli, Piva, Costantini, Cangini, Luppi, Biscarini, Geminiani, Furlati, Spinosa. He also collaborated with the composer Gian Luca Baldi in the writing up of the book “Introduzione alla modalità e al pensiero musicale moderno” (ed. Bèrben). He also performed with the writers Maurizio Maggiani,Ferruccio Brugnaro and Roberto Mussapi and with the actors Ivano Marescotti, Ruggero Sintoni, Paola Baldini, Enzo Vetrano, Stefano Randisi and Roberto “Freak” Antoni and with the musicians Massimo Mercelli, Sharon Isbin, Marko Feri and the simphonique “orchestra di Fiesole” and Cherubini orchestra”.

Together with Vanni Montanari, he planned the soundtracks of the exhibitions that Japan will dedicate to the sculptor Carlo Zauli in the years 2007/2008.

He is a member of the Open Quartet, the Tango Tres group and of the Grupo Candombe which meet with the approval of the critics. He also made records for Materiali Sonori and Faredollars Music. He is one of the founders of Diatonia, a cultural association which has been dealing with contemporary art projects since 1996. He is the art director of the Carlo Zauli Museum in Faenza.
